Finds like this are such interesting windows into how the places that we walk through have transformed over time:

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I read Chrome's translation of the first article and then had to tell Peg about it. She was impressed but not by my telling of it. She read it 20 minutes earlier with Google News. So there are articles written in English about this find. You could search News for Asturias Roman coins badger.

"The winter of 2021 was cruelly harsh on the Iberian Peninsula. The storm Filomena had covered much of Spain with snow, making it extremely difficult for the badger to find berries, worms or small invertebrates to eat. It then came out of its burrow inside the cave of La Cuesta ( Berció, Grado, Asturias) to scratch and tucked its legs into a small crack open next to its shelter. He found nothing to feed on, just a set of metal parts. They were hard and cold, so he abandoned some in front of his lair."

Love how the El Pais story begins with setting the scene and giving all credit for the find to the badger :) I want to hear the continuing story of the badger!

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
There's another thread running just now about whether you should walk alone or in company. I'm usually very much in the solo camp. But now the idea of walking with a companion badger is quite appealing. Quiet non-chatty creatures. Even more intimidating than a dog if you feel nervous and want some protection from possible malefactors. And now we learn that they can even pay their own way...
