A female brown bear released in the French Pyrenees has killed eight sheep in Spain, prompting emergency talks between the two countries. Claverina is now roaming through the mountains of Navarre, having crossed from Béarn in south-western France.

I might be roaming those mountains for a few days in September... I will keep my eyes peeled for her!

People forget that t the Pyrenees are wild, relatively remote wilderness. We too frequently treat them like a theme park.

I recall the 2013 incident where a French woman was partially consumed by one or more Griffon Vultures after falling and breaking her neck while day hiking with a friend in the Pyrenees. By the time first responders got to here 45 minutes after the fall, the vultures had eaten all the fleshy bits they could access.

We must remember that we are in the animals territory. The animals do what they need to do to survive.

We, pilgrims, are merely guests in their land.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
@t2andreo I remember reading about that incident! When we walked from Irun last year we came across a sheep carcass totally picked clean... and above us we could see the huge vultures circling... and I thought of that report

And on the Sanabres we tracked lots of wolf poop which was also a little disconcerting :D
