The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
The Camino is universal and, as such, you will have little trouble finding pilgrims that speak English. There is always the chance someone will not admit they "understand" English, but at some point, when they believe the time is right, they will join the conversation.

However, I think that this year, with so many native English speakers who aren't able yet to go to Spain it could be more difficult to find a group of English speakers to walk with.
As a native English speaker myself I've often had days on the Camino with no other English speakers to talk to in a normal year.

Luckily when all else fails the commonality is pantomime! After all you do not enter a bar/cafe to buy a used car.

My worst mis-understanding was ordering what I thought would be a starter and a main plate and ending up with 2 different tureens of soup!

Unless you're maybe walking mainly in Portugal this year, you will likely not be starved of opportunities to improve your English.

Rule number one -- go and talk to people.

Worked well for my dad, and he sold millions of English as a Foreign Language books.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
