Are Canadians having a problem meeting the 270 day validity day requirement on our proof of vaccination cards? For entry into Portugal. We are double vaccinated, but it's been 320 days scince our last shot. Will we be denied entry? Is anyone having this problem? Thanks

My friend is unvaccinated and cannot fly into Spain, but our research shows that for arrival into Portugal all you need is a negative COVID test. The 270 day rule since last jab (or if it is a third jab there is no time restriction), is Spanish Health Services rule. Check on the Portugal Health Ministry website! I also believe it’s the airline that will monitor before they let you fly, so also check your airline’s rules.

Don't forget you also need a negative test result as well. I am flying through Lisbon on Friday, so I'm hoping all goes smoothly

My understanding is that the requirement is a valid vaccine passport OR and negative test result, not AND.

Yes. You'll be denied entry...but a rapid antigen test will be enough to gain entry. My friend just went thru this at Pearson. And he was told by TAP people ahead of time he didn't need a test, but at the airport they wouldn't let h 0n the plane. It seems many are confused,even TAP reps.

We came from Canada to Porto on May 2. We uploaded our Canadian vaccination passports onto the KLM website and printed a copy. We were only asked to show the certificate upon entry in Porto. In fact, my friend didn't get his certificate out quickly enough and was waved through regardless.

Your proof of vaccination is not regarded as a valid proof of vaccination in any of the 27 EU countries. Therefore, you cannot fly and enter the foreign country on the basis of being appropriately vaccinated. However, you can fly and enter on the basis of another qualifying reason, for example in the case of a flight from Canada to Portugal, on the basis of a negative test result.

Control of your qualifying reason to be allowed entry is done before you board your plane in the departure country. At the arrival airport, there may be no control, random control or regular continuous control. It is more important to know what your airline wants to see than what the destination country wants to see.

The official Portugues website www.visitportugal.com even states explicitly: Order No. 4829-A/2022, of 22 April, published by the Portuguese government, determines the measures applicable to airports and maritime borders and defines the supervision of their operation. In Portugal, border control is ensured by ANA, S.A., by the PSP (Public Security Police), and by SEF (Portuguese Immigration and Border Service) and is carried out randomly to 25% of passengers upon arrival in the territory.
