there was a thread about what companies sold ethical outdoor clothing - but it disappeared...
Paramo is a good company - they source ethical materials, make clothing well and recycle it later. But it is expensive. You can sometimes pick-up seconds or used Paramo items on Ebay!
I try and buy everything secondhand - to avoid the environmental impact of new goods and the inevitable confusion of trying to make an ethical and sustainable choice. There is a website (used to be a magazine) called Ethical Consumer - they are great for finding out all the different criteria that a person could be concerned about - so if animal products are a problem for you - or investment in the arms trade - or polluting - they find it all out and grade companies accordingly. I have used them over the last 30 years or so - they are great!

there was a thread about what companies sold ethical outdoor clothing - but it disappeared...
The thread didn't disappear. It is here, and was closed because a debate developed about one of the many factors that go into balancing ethics, values and solutions. There is no simple answer to say which values override others. That discussion may be important in our lives, but is not a subject for this forum.

We have a policy against re-starting a discussion in a new thread right after an older thread on the same topic has been closed.

I have been incredibly inspired by so many stories of loss, pain, diagnosis, or other stories that tug at my heart strings, but one pilgrim, since lost in the threads here, was an 83 year old man...
I started my training walks last fall in preparation for the camino frances this year. This included walking in the mall in bad winter weather (ugh!). My husband was undecided about joining me...
