The network of cycle paths' EuroVelo 'will connect Irun with the rest of Europe. It will be via the Atlantic Coast Route'
Just as there is a European network of roads and highways for the movement of cars and other motor vehicles, starting next year there will be a network of safe and enjoyable routes for cycling.
The Atlantic coast route, which links France, Spain and Portugal, comes through Irun, and links with the Camino de Santiago happen in Pamplona, Puente la Reina, Estella, Logrono, Burgos and Frómista.
In Benavente it reaches the Via de la Plata - Zamora, Salamanca, Hervas, Plasencia, Caceres and Merida. Then come and Zafra, and in Andalusia, Cala, Nerva, Rio Tinto and Ayamonte, on the border with Portugal.
The proposed route will maximize old railway lines, cattle trails, canals and cultural routes.
Active Bidasoa is responsible for coordinating the development of the project in terms of the city. Irun part of the bike path, driven by European Cyclist Federation with support from the European Commission, composed of twelve routes and a total of 60,000 kilometers, of which 20,000 are already in operation.
The section must meet criteria designed so that it can be incorporated into the network EuroVelo. EuroVelo projects have two main objectives. On the one hand, encourage cycling as a means of transportation and, secondly, promote tourism more sustainable and respectful of the environment: tourism by bicycle or cycling.
