Experience Spain tomorrow (May 27th)

If you are walking in Spain at the moment, please stop by a bar tomorrow (May 27th 2009) at around 20.45, and experience one part of Spanish culture that I love.

What am I talking about? Football. There is nothing like experiencing a good football game in a Spanish bar.... especially when a Spanish team plays the final. :)

Greetings from sunny-all-week Santiago,
Ivar

Hi Ivar
When doing my camino in Spain last year, I stayed one night at a fairly new albergue. The top floor was a bar, and the bunks were down below. The night I was there was when Barcelona played Madrid to decide who would win the domestic trophy. Needless to say. there was no point in going to bed before the match ended. The noise from the spectators was so great it would have even drowned out the snorers [if they had been able to get to sleep!]. Thankfully the crowd dispersed soon after the match ended, and we were able to get to sleep at a reasonable time.
Buen Camino

Be brave. Life is joyous.

In June 2002 we sat in the Zingara restaurant watching Spain play South Africa's Bafana-bafana (the boys the boys) team in the World Cup. Spain won and we shouted ¡Ole! ¡Ole! when either side scored a goal. We had our flag up next to us and there was a really good spirit in the bar (excuse the pun!).
In 2006 we were in Viterbo on the night of the final of the World Cup. What a racket!! All night the hooters, cheers, horns, singing outside our hotel. When Italy won the whole town erupted. In the morning we found Italian flags draped over every statue, doorway, fence, traffic light - and we were given plastic flags to carry on our way to Rome. Very exciting!!
