I am escorting the Roll of Honour (Afghanistan) on Camino France on 20 May from SJPDP
The Roll of Honour details the 41 young Australians who died on Active Service in Afghanistan. In the centenary of the ANZAC’s, the Roll of Honour will be escorted to 41 prominent places and events around the World, laying 41 Poppies at each location.
I would like to apologise for my behaviour on the forum of which I was correctly punished, I was escorting the Roll of honour Afghanistan and got into deep trouble with a herniated disc that was repaired 8 weeks before the Camino start on 20 May and damaged again outside of Burgos with the result of having to limp the rest of the way to Santiago. stopping was not an option because I was honouring the 41 Young soldiers that died on active service for Australia but unfortunately the powerful drugs that I had to take to complete Camino France affected my psychological well being and I became erratic and quite rude on the forum. I have just now return from Hospital where they have repaired my L4 L5 disc and leaking spinal fluid plus my broken toe I also had. I am genuinely remorseful for my comments and would also like to thank my Camino Family along the way that helped me through this traumatic experience and helped me lay the 41 poppies on the shores of Finisterre. I hope my apology is accepted and that I can contribute from my experience gained on my walk Buen Camino or as my groups catchcry was No Vino No Camino

Thank you Mister Mick for escorting the Roll of Honour. Two years ago I had the honor of visiting the ANZAC memorial cemetery in Gallipoli. Good luck, que la luz de Dios alumbre su camino.

It takes a greater man than me to stand up humble and apologise - believe you me , there can be far more belligerent souls than you my friend.
I did not witness your perceived anger or impatience.
Perhaps you may be able to return to the Camino some day for your favourive part when you are not hurting so much?
I had a bad bout of Sciatica once - the pain was terrible - the confusion and confidence - was I ever to walk again with the numbness in my legs was even more alarming?
Buen Viaje Amigo.

Hey! , Come back as Hospitalero one day?;)

Hi Mick, I am happy to learn that you accomplished your mission. I thought about you when I passed the bridge after Burgos a month ago and sometimes in the following days I wondered if you'd made it. Well, of course you did!
I am very glad on your behalf and on behalf of the soldiers, their relatives and friends. Cheers!

@Mick McQueen : Apology? I haven't seen anything from you that requires that. Oh well, maybe you have fired some words in a tiring medical situation. Maybe moderators deleted them. What do I know. So what? On the other side, as I understand, you have undertaken a most admirable walk of honour: Comrades? Much more/meaningful reason than most pilgrims. Respect.

That aside: The moderators in here are running a very good show; easing tension, deleting tough/offending/aggressive posts, and sometimes locking when needed. It is all good. In this digital era, it is sometimes too easy to sit at home and fire at others in a too hasty mood, expressing what one would never say eye to eye. But the moderators are helpful about that: They do an admiring job.

What one should do, IMHO, when it gets heated, is to wait for 10 secs and read one's answer a couple of times before hitting the Enter button. Remember: There is a reason we have been blessed with two ears (and on the Net: Two eyes) but only one mouth: Hear/read more than you speak. I have failed myself a couple of times, so take comfort. No fuzz. :)

PS: Going in 2-3 weeks: Will have a vino toast for your admirable effort & respect for fallen soldiers (and them, of course). I was once a soldier: Fortunately, I was never in combat, but I was close a couple of times during the cold war, on the border of Russia (CCCP then), up in the Arctic. Incidents that the rest of the world do not know much about.

Dear Mick
Congrats on your accomplishment and THANK YOU. My husband is an Aussie Afghan veteran who served beside at least 4 of those guys you walked for. I had the luck of having him back home and walking the Camino with him, while 41 other families will never have the same opportunity.

What you did was beautiful, and the challenges you had to overcome make the journey even more meaningful.

Lest we forget.

Too many and too often!
I also had a herniated disc while on Camino several years ago. Excruciatingly painful and it immobilised me for several days. I dare say I was not my usual sunny self at the time either :) Your determination to carry on is truly remarkable. Many congratulations! And welcome back!

Dear Mick,
Thank you for your service! Thank you for helping the 41 to the end! Now it's time to care for yourself. You've carried a great load for others and yourself. Let your body and mind heal and know that you did good, probably much more than most of us could've done with such injuries! Sleep well and know the thoughts of those who have walked before you are with you!

Thank you for what you did for your soldiers!

I have no idea to what you refer in terms of any rudeness, but please know that your Camino Family is much larger than you may know...and that, as family members, we have a lot of understanding and offer much in the way of forgiveness and love.
