Camino Frances, May 2019
Having walked from SJPdP to Santiago in 2019 at the age of 70, I am off again next year. Has anyone any favourite Albergue that shouldn't be missed?

Thanks
Eric

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
My “favorite”, for all the wrong reasons, is the one in San Juan de Ortega on the CF, just before Burgos. The last few times I was there, it was so run down. Since San Juan de Ortega, a virtuous, hard working friend of the pilgrim and a real, honest to goodness Saint, is buried right there, it pulled my heartstrings to see it in such poor condition.
Not the answer you’re looking for but ithe albergue with the greatest backstory for me. Hot showers, swimming pools, nice beds, charging stations - those can be found in many places along the way. Features, not benefits.

La Perla Negra in Azqueta. Helena went above and beyond the call of duty in hosting me recently. She had a great place and good food with all single beds and no bunk beds (disregard what Camino Ninja says). This is one of the businesses disproportionately affected by the Covid pandemic. If you get the chance to support this female entrepreneur please do so. Tell her Hans sent you. I’m sure that will get you an extra bean in your soup!

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
Albergue Etxeurdina in Villatuerte! Is is open since last year. It is in a beautiful restored old house. There are bunkbeds but also very nice private rooms with exposed beams and a little balcony (where we stayed). You can cook in the kitchen and the next morning you get a good breakfast for free. The hospitalero Jordy is very nice and speaks excellent english. And you can book online on his website. I am now on the Frances in Logroño, but this is the best Albergue sofar.

I'm not sure what you mean "Camino Ninja says". La Perla Negra has 9.4 out of 10 rating in the Camino Ninja App. And I think Helena is pretty awesome. So???

The app details says 9 bunk beds and they are all single beds. Helena was the one who commented on this point and said it should be clarified. No offense meant, your app is awesome!

Oh yes. Helena wrote me about that. The app differentiates between single beds and bunk beds and Helena’s place is listed with single beds. But still it says 9 bunk beds. It’s a translation update coming up on that one.

But please if you find errors in the app, write me an email, and things will get taken care of.
