- Time of past OR future Camino
- .
the other recent thread asking about whether people needed medical care on or after the camino reminded me of something.
When I came back from two longer caminos I had problems with my heels.
While on the camino I took good care of my feet - used well walked-in boots with insoles, a little vaseline between the toes in the morning and airing of the feet at lunchtime etc etc and I never had any kind of blistering that interfered with walking. All the friction areas gradually toughened up into good thick skin.
However on going out jogging a few weeks after returning, I came back with bloody heels and quite a lot of pain. From then on I had deep cracks in the thick dry skin that were painful to walk on and kept re-opening (and filling up with sock material!). The first time I took it as a curiosity but it keeps happening so I thought it worth mentioning. I discovered they make a skin softening cream and this has proved to be the solution. I don't know if others have experienced the same? Eitherways if you've developed great thick skin and return to a soft life in an office like me, this cream might be something worth thinking about before you get this problem
cheers, tom
