Field made out to look like a world map

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Hello everyone
I walked with a lady last May who told me of a field on the Camino that was made to look like a world map.
Does it still exists and where exactly is it. Cheers Tony
I walked the Frances route in mid April 2015 and saw the lovely, large world map made from various vegetation, located on the downhill after leaving the hilltop village of Cirauqui. It was awesome. I walked the route again at the same time this past spring, 2017. I was with newbie family members, telling them excitedly that we would be coming upon the map soon...but unfortunately it was not planted this year. Very dissappointing. :(

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I had never seen that, but I did a little googling and it is pretty amazing, kind of like the Nazca lines of the Camino.

Turns out it was made from old tires in honor of World Environment Day in 2012.

After the tires went in, there was planting, I guess inside the tires. The guy interviewed on the youtube said that it would be moved in several years, but he didn't say where it would go!

Very interesting...thanks for sharing that, Laurie!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

I, too, was disappointed to see that the map had not be planted this year. It was always amazing to see the world in the field when you came upon it.
Hi Marilynn, so was the map there this year because I must have walked right past it.

What a great thread this is with the interesting video, and the photos as each one shows a little different perspective of the map. A big thanks to the OP for starting it with a question! :):)

Way Cool! Glad I made it by on a very hot August day last year. Thanks all for sharing this and it's nice to know the 'story' behind it. Now, I'm missing it!

I thought I'd seen the field this year. Turns out it was our first leg on 31 July 2016. Shame it's gone. Nice to see so many had that serendipitous moment of walking along quite happily to suddenly see this.

Thanks for sharing the YouTube video link. I saw this feature in 2016 and for some reason it popped into my head this morning. I was wondering why we never see photos or references to for the map and now I know why as it was removed.

Walked by it in January of 2020, it wasn't there. Don't know if they moved it or if plan on replanting it etc.

I heard, from this forum I think, that the farmers had agreed to leave the map in place for five years, then remove it. I miss it! Apparently it was a lot of work to maintain.
Yes, I can imagine that it was a lot of work!

I hadn't noticed that before, but you are correct as there is no NZ....blame the farmer! 😅
Sometimes it is good to be inconspicuous, it means that we can get on and do stuff without being noticed. BTW, had you noticed how NZ is changing the world?
