I intend to leave the UK the day Before Brexit and walkMarch -April 2019 Camino Frances
Why do people who only wish to walk 100km start in Sarria my guide shows that to be 114km from the end where as ferrieross is nearer the 100 km mark.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Ferrieros is pretty small. It couldnt cope with the volume of pilgrims

I think transport is also an issue - not that easy to reach the 100km mark by public transport. What puzzles me is why those who have decided to walk just the minimum qualifying distance for a Compostela seem to prefer Sarria and the Camino Frances rather than Lugo on the Primitivo or Neda on the Ingles as starting points? Both almost exactly at the 100km point and both easily reached by public transport.

Or even Monforte de Lemos on Invierno and Ourense on Sanabres. Main railway to Madrid goes through them...

But apropos @Bradypus post I think that most of the people (first timers) really don't know any other Camino than Frances. Or maybe Portugues. I guess this is also the reason why Sarria as a starting point. I mean even most of the locals in Spain don't know about Caminos going through their towns and villages...

Sadly true. I used to like Sarria which I found a friendly and welcoming town on my earlier Caminos. But my blood boiled on my last walk through there on seeing what a money-grubbing and tacky Camino theme park it has now become. Definitely time to look elsewhere.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

It's for nuggets like this that I treasure this community. The thought had never occurred to me that one could skip the first 15km of the Ingles from Ferrol. That would require a special determination not to overachieve.

:) Just following the logic of the original question. Neda came to mind particularly because I declined the offer of a Compostela in November. I had walked from San Andres de Teixido to Santiago but was then told that I only qualified for a Compostela because entirely without thinking about it I had joined an official route at Neda - just 2km beyond the magic 100km boundary. As far as the pilgrim office was concerned the earlier part of my journey was not considered a pilgrimage and would not be recorded. I disagreed with that definition and declined to endorse their view by accepting a Compostela based on what I feel is one more rule too far. Personally I would prefer to see the 100km rule abolished so that the focus for the Compostela can return to its spiritual dimension and away from a fixation with narrow trivial rules and the games people play to work around them.
