Hello,

We will be walking the camino in October and are going to take a detour and walk from Najera to San Millan de la Cogolla, sleep in San Millan then walk on to Santo Domingo de la Calzada, maybe via Canas. I was wondering if the path is easy to find and if anybody had any indications on how to find the right way. Or any link to a useful map to buy.
Thank you very much in advance,

Marie

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Be sure to read this earlier Forum thread re Suso, Yusa and Canas. It is filled with great tips. Perhaps you might try plotting your own walking route on Google maps. For additional info with further links see this page re San Millan

Buen camino!

Buen camino!

Thank you. I was looking for something a bit more precise than Google map as it suggests several ways and maybe one is nicer than the others. The thread is great thanks.

Thank you so much that's great. I'll also go to the visitor centre in yuso as suggested in the other thread.
Cheers

The current (2015) edition of the John Brierley guide to the Camino Frances has a couple of pages dedicated to this detour. The maps aren't very precise but show the recommended route and stops along the way.

Thank you I'll get the latest edition. Looking forward to walking this detour as it looks really interesting.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Also, my son reminded me I could use ViewRanger. It's brilliant. You can download maps and create walking your route then just follow it when you're there.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Ah well, I will report back when we have done it. Maybe he took the wrong path :)

Hi there Marie,
I was wondering, if you did get to walk from Nájera til San Millán. Excited to hear about it, and if you'd like to share your experiences. Planning to walk it myself. Checked it out on maps.google, and I'm really curious about the possibility to walk along the cliffs and Río Najerilla the first part - the west side of the river. And I've seen Cordovin suggested as part of the journey. To me, that seems to be a detour. Why not follow Río Cárdenas through Badarán? There seem to be nice gravel trails. And other tips and tricks would be nice.

Buen Camino, Niels

Just saw that this thread is five years old, but the information may be useful for some!

This is a GPS track, you will undoubtedly find many more on Wikiloc, which is the best place to look for GPS tracks in Spain. https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trai...-la-cogolla-canas-san-juan-de-ortega-18572371

And here are tracks for San Millán to Nájera.

Thank you so much, Peregrina 2000. That should be the route to San Millän from Nájera. But on the way back, I'd like to go to Cañas as well. Still thanks for the tip to Wikiloc.

The first trail I linked to In that message does go through Cañas. I haven’t walked these and my geography is a little weak since I haven’t been on the Francés in years, but if these are not the routes you want, you will definitely find it in wikiloc.

You're right. I don't know, why I didn't see that. Thanks a lot.
