Finishing the Camino another year

I am currently walking the Camino Frances for the first time. For a number of reasons (sickness mainly) I will not be able to get to Santiago in the time I have remaining.

If I return next year, can I start from wherever I finish this time? Or do I need to start from Sarria (argh!) and do the last 100kms?

Also can I use my current compostela (so all my stamps stay in one place) or do I need to get a new one?

I also heard that if you only do the last 100 kms you need to get more stamps each day than when doing the whole thing from SJPP. Is that correct?

Welcome Jaaybeee, the answers to your questions are yes, yes and yes. Many people who are short timewise do it in stages over several years and if you walk from Sarria you do need two stamps per day.

If you start again you just need to get your first stamp from the place you left off. (You do not need to stay overnight there if that's not convenient). You should use your existing Credential and not get a new one. You need two stamps a day from Sarria, and it does not mention that Sarria to Santiago has to be done in one go.

When you said that you were doing it in stages I thought you meant stages from StJPdP, not Sarria. I don't know if you can do Sarria to Santiago in yearly stages but an email to the Pilgrims Office in Santiago might clarify that for you.

I have read somewhere that the last 100km has to be continuous, and not split into two separate sections. Whether this is accurate information I don't know, but as mentioned, an email to the pilgrim's office should confirm.

You don't have to go back to Sarria though - you can start at Barbadelo or even Morgade. There was a recent thread about this, and an email from the pilgrim's office confirmed that Casa Morgade was an acceptable starting point.

Look at the link I sent - it answers this clearly - the last 1oo km does not need to be done all in one go, but can be done in stages as long as you get a stamp to confirm that you started again where you left off.
