first stamp on our credencial?

We have finally completed the plan for our first Camino and will be arriving in Sarria by bus about 9 pm on a tuesday.

We have our credencials but were wondering if the small hotel we have booked in Sarria for the night we arrive will be able to stamp it? Do we also need to register anywhere in Sarria before we start walking on Wednesday morning? We would appreciate any guidance on this.

Thanks for any help, this forum has been a great source of information for our forthcoming walk. We hope to have our blog up and going within the next week or so for anyone who may be interested in following us as we make our journey from Ireland.

Hello bms1970!

Welcome to the Confraternity forum. You will find much useful information here for planning your Camino as well as many pilgrims who are eager to answer your questions and provide advice.

Any hotel in Sarria should have a stamp for your Credential. There is no need for you to register in order for you to begin walking. However you should have your Credential stamped at least where you stop at the end of each day. Some pilgrims get stamps whenever they stop during the day. Often in the province of Galicia it is suggested that you get at stamp each morning and each evening.

Buen Camino!

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Hola - The credencial says that pilgrims should collect at least 2 sellos per day

Johnny Walker knows more about the Camino than I shall ever know! But - please - don't worry too much about the number of stamps on your Passport. There may be stages where it's only possible to get one [at night]. Whether in an albergue [refugio] or hotel, get them to stamp it. They all will! If you lunch in a bar, maybe get one there, too.To the best of my knowledge, in Santiago they don't count how many you have - well, they didn't when I received my certificate last year!
This year [in May] I'm on the Via de la Plata....I've got the Camino Bug ....

I understand your point and it is true that if someone comes into the Pilgrims Office with one or more credenciales full of sellos because they have walked from St Jean or Pamplona or farther away I'd like to think that they would recieve the Compostela or certificate without question.

However - pilgrims who walk the last 100 kms are expected to get 2 sellos per day and the Pilgrims' Office does look for these.

Buen camino
