Flight Booked

Took the plunge and booked the flight to Biarritz, arrival time is 9am so I should be in SJPdP by 11am on 5th September.
My question is, would I make it up to Orrison, if I left around noon? The other option is to stay the night in SJPdP and head directly for Roncesvalles.
What advice does the team have.

Yes, you can get to Orisson in about 3 hours. Meaning of course all your travel connection work and once you get to SJPdP and suddenly decided "this looks like a cool place to spend the day!"

I don't know where you are flying from, or what kind of condition you are in, but I enjoyed spending a night in SJPP. It is a fascinating little town that you could enjoy on your arrival date and set off for Orisson the following morning. Going all the way to Roncesvalles on Day 1 is, IMO, a lofty goal best left to the uber fit. I believe in starting out slow and letting my body adapt.

Make sure they have room at Orrison before you set off later in the day (if you do) ...they are fully booked on a few days in early May and April might not be much better ... altho Kayola may be available ...

On my first camino we arrived by train into SJPP early in the morning and ran around town, shopped, and walked to Orisson the same day. We left at noon and arrived around 4 pm. So the answer to your question is, it can be done. But giving yourself only an hour to run around SJPP and go to the Pilgrim's office is really rushing. If you have the time, I think you would be better off to spend the day in SJPP and walk the next day. But why do you have to go all the way to Roncesvalles the next day?

Actually one of the highlights of my first Camino was staying at Kayola and walking back late from the meal at Orrisson(not to be missed IMO) totally pissed with an equally pissed Canadian telling rude jokes,man we did not laugh the next day lol.

Some really good suggestions, I guess I'm looking to much at the guide book, day one indicates SJPdP to Roncesvalles, which I guess would be a stretch in the early part of the experience.
I think I'll take the teams advice and stay in SJPdP the first day/night and make my way to Orrison the next day (must remember to make a booking).

My fitness level is not too bad I'm walking at about 2.5 mile per hour with a break every 1.5 hours. So far my training has consisted of 10 mile hikes 4 times a week, this I'll up as I start to get fitter. Once the legs and feet are in better shape I'll add the rucksack with 10% of my body weight, which is 10kg, although I know I won't be taking that much with me.

Some people can walk that far each day, but we had to accept that it was too hard for us. There are some people like @Grogan who are are flying through the Camino, and others who need an extra week or two to finish. You have to walk your own camino.

You're so right, it's not a race. I want time to reflect and take it all in, and if it takes and extra couple of weeks then so be it.
I have been reading the daily blog by Grogan, the distances he travel are are certainly not for me, maybe 40 or 50 years ago.

Good plan. You can book at Orisson any time now. September is a busy month and Orisson is a great experience.

I know I've looked at the thread regarding to booking detail for Auberge Orrison, but the last hour searching hasn't brought it up. So if anyone has the contact details I'd very much appreciate it. As they say it's never to early to book.

Spend the rest of the day in Sjpdp I did, it's a nice place to look around. So take your time. Wish you a Buen Camino, Peter.
