Hi looking at walking in Italy this September. Not sure which of these routes to do. Have done the Francigena previously plus French way and Portuguese Camino. Doesn't seem to be a lot of info on both - am aware of the St Francis Way guide book and the via postumia website but ideally after info from people who have walked the routes. Main thing I wish to know about is the availability and cost of accommodation. Usually stay in hostel /albergue sytle accommodation paying the 10-15 Euro sort of price. Is this type of accommodation available on these routes and how easy is it to find? Plus any other useful info
Thanks
John

Hi, John,

Via Postumia is named by the town in Slovenia called Postojna (check this link for famous Postojna cave: https://www2.postojnska-jama.eu/en/) which is on Slovenian Way of St.James. I think my fellow citizen @caminka will be able to tell you much more about Via Postumia than I could. You might send her a PM.

Anyway Buen Camino!

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

eh? I didn't know that!
as far as I know the road was named after consul Spurius Postumius Albinus Magnus of the gens Postumia (Postumia family) from rome.

there is (as of yet) very little dedicated pilgrim accommodation on via postumia, but there are discounts for pilgrims in various establishments. you will definitely need a sleeping bag and a mattress to take advantage of the ones that exist in the parishes. and always call ahead, several days if possible, as the priests often take care of several parishes and are not always available on site. @Andrea Vitiello's is the best info you can get.

I haven't actually walked this route as it didn't yet exist when I was stomping across the northern italy, only touched it in a few places that are the same as for via grado aquileiese.

...
Then I guess the Consul's family name was made after the Roman settlement Postumia (Postojna) ;)

Thanks for clearing that.
