Flying into France from US and then walking to Spain

Past OR future Camino
2021
My wife and I (both vaccinated) leave Wednesday, Sep 8th and will fly to Paris before taking a train from Paris to St. John Pied de Port on Sept 11th, to (hopefully) begin the Camino Frances on the 12th.

I understand that there is the website to get a Spanish QR code for people entering Spain from the US by air or sea - and one has to input their flight or cruise information.

However, we will be coming via train from France.

Since we are coming via France, does that mean we do not need the Spanish QR entry code for entry into Spain? (We understand that we need to meet the French requirements to get into Paris initially).

We will have our vax cards with us, so think we should be good once we are within Spain.

Thanks for any insights!

Eric

What if you are flying into France and then walking over into Spain? The Spain QR code form is requesting flight data with arrival in Spain. I am fully vaccinated and will be getting tested (just to be safe!) prior to my flight on Sept 11th with arrival in France on Sept 12th. I expect to be walking over into Spain from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and arrive in Orreage/Roncevalles on Sept 14th. Many thanks and appreciation for guidance!

Several forum members have asked about this variation on a theme — what if US travelers fly into France and then walk into Spain?

This question has come up on the discussion of travel from the US to Spain, but it is a different question, so I am starting a new thread. All of those discussions, at least the ones I have seen, were dealing with regulations pre-September 6, so things could be different now.

You cannot get a Spanish QR code unless you arrive in Spain by plane or ferry.

I know this has been mentioned on several threads, and I THINK I know the answer, but I don’t have the facts or the references so I don’t want to give an unformed opinion.

Thanks, all, Laurie

I flew into Paris to walk from Le Puy to StJPdP. Very first day traveling and pulling train tickets and vaccine card multiple times, I lost my vaccine card, to my great chagrin. I used a picture in my phone, and that seemed to work, but I really wanted a legitimate QR code to carry. A pharmacist in Le Puy directed me to a stadium there that was being used as a vaccination center. There my information was converted to papers with what it said was an EU QR code for proof of vaccination. Sigh of relief! Yay!

What a relief indeed! I start from Le Puy next week. Since the vaccine card is so small, I decided to tape it in the back of my passport. Three weeks after applying, I still have not received my QR code so it's good to know there's a vaccination center to get one.

You are correct Laurie, the SpTh app only for entry into Spain by air or sea, i arrive on september 22, Madrid, need to fill in the app arrival date, flight number and seat. Only request the QR code 48 hrs before boarding.

I can give a somewhat informed opinion but it is just an opinion and I am not a lawyer. It applies to everyone who travels from France to Spain by land, not just to those who came by plane from the USA to France and then travel to Spain. It is based on the Spanish Order SND/292/2021.

It says: 'All persons over 12 years of age, coming from risk areas in France and arriving in Spain by land, must have either proof of vaccination, or proof of a negative test result [further details about the kind of tests required] or proof of recovery from COVID-19 disease'. The Spanish text says 'todas las personas' and 'deberán disponer'. It doesn't say that these persons are 'passengers' and it doesn't say that these persons have to 'show' their documentation to someone. It doesn't say anything about the length of stay of the persons in the risk areas in France, it just says 'procedentes'. The list of risk areas in France is published on the SpTH/gob.es website. A new list is published every week. The basis for the risk zones are the 13 administrative regions of France. To me this means that people with a completed vaccination program must have their vaccination certificate with them IF they come from a region of France that Spain has currently classified as a risk area, and they need nothing else. People who are not vaccinated must undergo one of the prescribed tests. Currently (all of this week and next week), all of France is classified by Spain as risk areas.

IOW, vaccinated people can forget about the whole thing, they don't even need to find out whether they travelled through a risk area in France or not. They must have their vaccination papers with them. Which they probably will have anyway.

What do I know as a fact? That there are no controls at the French-Spanish border crossing SJPP-Roncesvalles.

Oh, I nearly forgot about the fines. Order SND/292/2021 says: Failure to comply with this Order shall be subject to the provisions on offences and sanctions provided for in Title VI of Law 33/2011, of 4 October 2011, General Law on Public Health.

Thank you everyone, this was very helpful in allaying our Covid Process Anxiety.

CPA can be very debilitating for pilgrims, but hopefully we can cure it with our first stamp on the camino this week!
