I'm looking for some footwear recommendations for the next trip. For the 3-week walk in September 2010 from Le Puy, I wore the Vasque Wasatch boots, which in many ways I was very happy with: they offer excellent ankle support, a right-sized toe box, a stiff sole, and good waterproofness. In fact I had no fit or blister problems on this trip at all. The sock system I was using was the Bridgedale two-sock approach: thin liners plus the thicker Trekkers.

However, due to the extraordinary stoniness of the footpath, every night the soles of my feet just ached (as though they had been beaten with a cricket bat all day, which wasn't that far from the truth). I started the trip with brand-new Superfeet insoles, and rather wished I had a spare pair to insert at the half-way point. Perhaps I should point out the boots have 500 miles on them at this point.

Any thoughts? Do I need new boots (with an uncompressed midsole)?Different boots? Different insoles? Different feet?

hola Kitsambler
xzaccery same problem
and you pos made me think a bit?
i wore great trail shoes that had my perfect specs
BUT like you, i was in agony each nite
and lived on painkillers and anti inflams for 6 weeks
i couldnt stand on anything vaguely cold without being in big pain
my only solution (and absolutely the wrong thing technically, i know) was to put my feet in a bucket of v hot water for half hour
this gave me a bit of respite
and my best part was starting to walk again the next morning - i had pain for an hour, and then my feet went numb - bliss! no more pain
but you point to having done 500kays pre walk
and i did similar mileage
perhaps we over "walked-in" our foowear?
btw its now been 6 weeks since getting back, and part of my right foot is still numb
foot doc advised another 2 - 3 weeks off my feet
he mentioned high arches and possibly considering an orthotic
im sooo wanting to get out there and walk

considering an orthotic

Hi!
I had problems similar to yours.
The orthotic fixed it good.
Paid 300$ Canadian but worth every penny.

Stand up and walk,
Jean-Marc
