Hi, any advice on the following would be much appreciated. I'm starting the Camino in just over a week and plan to walk through Oct, I have a pair of water proof boots and some trail running trainers that are not waterproof, the trainers are more comfortable than the boots, what ones to take?

Leave the boots; Take the runners. You'll end up being much happier. If it rains, your feet will get wet regardless of footwear. Trainers drain once the rain stops, and (mostly) dry overnight.

BURN THE BOOTS TAKE THE TRAIL RUNNERS. Remember they should be a size larger than what you normally wear. Your feet get bigger and bigger the further you walk!! If they are wet at night here is what you do. When you stop in bars take a newspaper or two and stuff it in your backpack. When you get to the albergue crumple up the newspaper and stuff the pages in your shoes. After an hour or two if they are really wet replace and repeat. Check on them before you go to bed and if the newspaper is really wet and your shoes too, repeat once more, You will definitely have dry shoes in the morning. Lots of albergues will have newspaper and bins to put the wet paper in. I take newspaper just in case.

I am a boot man myself...I like the added ankle support, especially on rocky surfaces. My Salomans are waterproof and have kept my feet dry during two quite rainy days here in England on a trek I am doing now. I wear rain pants that cover to ankle length over the boots.

Do a 10 kilometre walk with each while wearing a 5 kilo pack.
Afterwards let us know which pair of footwear worked for you.
Otherwise there is really know way of knowing or recommending.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
