Loved your story, everyone has a different story, perhaps early morning, brushing you teeth and a woman comes out of the shower with nothing on but a towel, wrapped around her head! Buenos Dios! in this case Guten Morgen! and move on. My most frustrating moment? Walked 34k instead of the planned 23, ate dinner, showered and off to bed. Next morning, my shirt smelled, well, funky, no clean socks so those from the day before yesterday will do, ah! clean underwear!!!. About 12k down the Camino the elastic band in my skivies says, "You are crazy, I'm out of here!". You can walk with uncooperative unmentionables down around your knees, you can seek out a tree and wear something only slightly - 14km - used, or you can remove them and walk bare-bute until evening. Ah, never boring on the Camino!

Then I read TPloomis's account of how his zipper got stuck.

I've suddenly gone off that commando idea.

Lycra underwear, with no stitches; just perfect. Only thing is, they do not last forever, you do have to renew your fleet every 1000 miles or so

Friend Amancio - if you would look over at my picture to the left <--- you will notice jeans (cotton) Carhartt t-shirt (cotton), unseen skivvies (cotton), organic fiber socks, and leather Australian hat - not a stich of Lycra, no acrylics, no polyesters, no nylon, no Gore-Tex. I recognize the so called benefits which such materials grant but I get the hives should any of them even touch me. Well, not hives, but for me they all feel nasty and tend to develop weird smells that don't really come out even after washing. Cotton will also biodegrade in the next 100 years of so, I try not to leave anything behind after we have all walked down that path of the dinosaurs pointed out for us.

So if you were to copy the packing lists of pre-1800 female pilgrims you could cut down on the weight of your backpack

I think Commando works best for men if one is wearing a kilt.
