Albi is an interesting town steeped in history. The old bridge is nearly a thousand years old.

It is likely the crossing spot of Norman soldiers, en route to join Frankish soldiers led by William VIII of Aquitaine, before heading to Spain to support Sancho Ramirez of Aragon in his war (a very early crusade) against the Moors in 1064.

Yes, Albi is certainly a place of fascinations, a heady place. When I am in Albi I love to immerse myself in it's visual splendour then day dream for a while in the half-light of the Saint Salvi cloister.

History, though has not always been kind to Albi's residents, what with the decimation of the Black Plagues, the Albigensian Crusade (1209–1229), the Shepherds Crusades (1320), the Wars of Religion and so on down the centuries...
