Free Breakfast at the Parador in Santiago?

RENSHAW

Official Camino Vino taster
Time of past OR future Camino
2003 CF Ronces to Santiago
Hospi San Anton 2016.
When I finished my first Camino in 2003 there was a rumour amongst pilgrims that the first 5 pilgrims each morning to arrive though a back entrance of the Hotel were ushered into a small room adjoining the kitchen and treated to a 5 star breakfast.
Then there was also talk of an airline that offered one a discounted flight back home on the producing of a Composela?

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
although i have never taken up the opportunity to avail of the free meals at the parador in sdc, here is the info i have gathered.

the parador will provide 3 meals per day to the first 10 peregrinos who present their compostelas at the garage door entrance. the meals are the same as eaten by the staff. this is a continuation of the tradition in this parador.

as for the discounted flight from airlines, this has been long gone with the wind. this practice has been discontinued for a long time. all the airlines charge extortionate prices for tickets bought at the last minute departing from santiago.

Good rumour, and almost true, the parador in Santiago provides meals for the first 10 pilgrims at each meal, not just breakfast, The meeting place is the car park entrance which is to the left of the main entrance of the hotel.

The meal is not 5 star, it is from the staff kitchen and still good, there is a dedicated pilgrims dining room in the services area near the tradesman entrance at the rear of the hotel

To be eligible for the meal you must produce a compestalla that is no older than 1 week, and matching ID card or passport

I suggest spending 22E for the breakfast buffet at the Parador. I think it is the best in the world, and you let the rich folk see a real pilgrim!

I assume that breakfast includes smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and champagne, to start with.....
followed by kedgeree, toast, marmalade, coffee and aguadente. For that price.

Lets throw a room en suite as well.

Sojourner - all of the above with the exception the booze.

It is all a matter of taste but for me the Parador in Santiago offers about the worst service and the poorest standard of cooking I have ever experienced.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.
