From Pola de Gordón to Ujo

In Ender’s 2022 Salvador guide, on pages 59-60, he describes a new routing between Pola de Lena and Ujo. It has been introduced in order to avoid a terrible scary walk on the side of a very narrow shoulder-less road used by a lot of trucks. It may be fine on a weekend, but I’ve done it on several work days in the early morning and it was awful.

Anyway…. the new route (pictures shown in his guide) avoids that road stretch and takes you off road. It involves crossing under the highway just before you arrive at the gasolinera outside of Pola. Easy to see arrow is pictured in his guide. At one spot after a short ascent, there is what used to be a very un-obvious sharp left turn to begin a descent. The guide shows how tree branches have been placed to prevent people from continuing on the wide path in front, and arrows added.

Ender just sent me pictures to show the improvements that he and his band of camino angels are making to make the path more obvious and easier to navigate. This work is not financed by anyone except the group themselves… hint hint, there is a donation button on page 72 of the guide.

I know there are several forum members heading out on the Salvador soon, and would love to hear some first hand reports on all these improvements!

Buen camino, Laurie

I fly out a week from tonight. Can’t wait to report back! These pictures seem to make it really obvious. Fingers crossed I don’t screw it up :)

And yes, I happily made myself familiar with that donate button. His guide has been invaluable so far, and I haven’t even started!
