Great memories; thanks for the post. It is a fantastic route, and another reason I like walking in France more than Spain (though Spain wins on having convenient accommodations).

Good observation, its been a few months and my memory of that van is slightly foggy, but yes they were definitely bullet holes. I had been walking through a forest for at least an hour by that point so it was really a surprise just to see any type of vehicle there, let alone in that condition. It would be interesting to know how it got there and who shot it.
