LIVE from the Camino Gear stolen at very start of trip

Time of past OR future Camino
May 2016
I need some urgent help. Just starting out to walk Camino Frances from Burgos to Leon. At Madrid Charmatin station catching train to Burgos and had my rucksack stolen with all my gear. Fortunately they did not take credit cards passport or tickets. But they did get my Credential. I'm on train now to Burgos and my first night booked at Tardajos. Will go to Decathalon store to get some new gear tonight and pharmacy tomorrow to get medicines etc.

The main issue is where can I get a replacement Credential? Burgos cathedral? Anyone know their opening hours?

A selection of Camino Jewellery
Burgos municipal albergue i beleive has them. It is behind the cathedral. You should be able to get one there tonight till about 10pm.

From the front of cathedral go to the right up the lane beside the cathedral, up the stairs and you will see it on the left just ahead of you.

Here's the location on Google maps;
El Camino de Santiago en Burgos
Calle de Fernan Gonzalez, 28, 09003 Burgos, Spain

What a bad experience. I confirm that the municipal albergue by the cathedral will issue you with a new credential. When we picked up the Camino at Burgos my friend forgot to bring her credential and was able to get a new one there even though we didn't stay there.

So sorry you lost your things, Chris. Sounds like a traumatic moment and aftermath. Were the police able to help at all?
Hope the rest of your trip goes smoothly. Take care and keep us posted!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

That's a tough way to start your Camino. Sounds like you've bounced back well and will be getting all the essentials back in place soon- hope you have a great pilgrimage.

That is horrible Chris, I hope you were able to make a police report and I hope you are able to get what you need to continue.

Buen Camino.

Oh I am so sorry that happened! I am also so proud of your attitude, it's only stuff, I'll get more stuff, this stuff is not gonna stop me from walking my Camino.
In a perfect world, your Karma will run over his Dogma, but we are not in a perfect world. May the bird of happiness fly up his nose.
Instead, everything that happens to you now will be better than the beginning of your Camino, and you have a great story to tell over that first beer..." A funny thing happened to me on the way to Santiago..."

Chris, I'm really sorry to hear that happened to you. I was worried about pickpockets in Madrid, but this is a new concern, and I hope you weren't assaulted for it. You've done well to arrange for your meds and find a gear place and to regroup and move on. The best to you going forward!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Yes Chris that really is a bummer. I will be going through Charmatin in June so will be extra vigilant.

All the best, fellow Ozzy (unless your "Melbourne"means something else!). I did all my Camino this April with cheap Decathlon gear and it was great! Everything lasted and worked fine!
I'm sorry for your rough start, but Burgos is a wonderful city and everything will go well!

Very sorry Chris.
I think your optimistic and practical attitude speaks volumes..... I really trust 'all shall be well' for you.

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
That's a real bummer - but don't let it spoil your Camino! We lost our passports/money/camera/Compostelas etc on our way home from our first Camino - and it did make us feel bad for a couple of days, but then we felt quite free - we had nothing important to look after...!
Madrid is a hotspot - I was on the metro and found a man with his hand digging in my handbag - as i am a polite Brit i struggled to find the right Spanish words to say 'Get your hands out of my bag you thieving little b*****d!' Luckily my husband took measure of the situation and pushed the guy backwards off the train - and his accomplice at the next stop... He then told me that EVERYONE understands anglo-saxon...
My sister's boyfriend had been robbed at the same time in the next carriage - so we still spent my birthday weekend in police stations...!

i got mine last week in Burgos cathedral. The desk fir credential is on the far left after you go through main doors, and the desk opens at 10am

Thank you all for your encouraging responses. Just a quick update to let you know all is well.

Got all the basic gear I needed and stuck to my plan. My pack is no more than 5 kilos. Just shows you don't need half the stuff I've been collecting for 6 months!

The Camino really does provide. Pilgrims and locals all so supportive and helpful. On my second day of walking from Burgos met 5 great buddies and we've all been together since.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
I could never imagine an 8kg backpack disappearing while with its owner. I would be intereated to know how this happen to make sure I am extra careful next time I find myself in Madrid and other place where this could happen.

I was walking on this part of the trail at around 8 am this morning. I noticed some strange materials along the path (some condoms, a pornographic picture, a pair of male underwear). The path is...
