General Strike in Spain November 14th 2012

A guide to speaking Spanish on the Camino - enrich your pilgrim experience.
Hi All! Has anybody got any experience of how 'general' a general strike is likely to be? If pilgrims on their way to/from the Camino get caught up and are unable to use public transport are privately run hostals, taxis etc still likely to be operating? I would imagine the answer is yes, but I don't know.

Buen Camino!

Hola

Public transport won't operate. I have international flights on Wednesday which are being cancelled from Spain. Hospitals will operate emergency services as normal. I would have thought taxis as self employed people generally will still operate - although in towns usually not during the hours of any demonstrations.
In the main towns with major demonstrations - such as Santiago - literally everything closes during the demonstrations - bars, cafes, shops etc, only opening later in the day. Last time the windows of all of the banks were smashed and ATMs set on fire. However in a demonstration a couple of weeks ago I notice that the bank windows had been pelted with eggs rather than smashed.

Although in the towns with demonstrations bars etc open later in the day people travelling (like me :( ) can expect disruption.

Yes all Banks should have a daily dose of egg on their face
(think the new to be ABOC will give them plenty of EGG)

Hoping all pilgrims get little disruption :D

Yes, pardon me. So I've just read this cool article about the closing of the Puerta del Perdón in the Monastery of Santo Toribio for the holy year (and it is a very beautiful peurta for sure). It...
