Getting back to Santaigo from Muxia??

What's the best way to get back to Santiago from Muxia? We arrive I. Muxia Sunday April 5 2015. I have seen there is a bus but with limited departure days/ times. We would like to fly to London on the Monday sometime?

The only way to get back to Santiago from Muxia is the bus. Or an expensive taxi.

But how are you flying home? You don't tell us? Direct from Santiago (is that even possible?), via Madrid? Have you booked your flights? What is their schedule?

You can get to Muxia and say you have been there and get on the 1st bus back to Santiago ( but what a pity that would be as Muxia offers one of the best, if not THE best sunset this World has to offer, because of the rocks, the story of the Prestige, the damage to the church last year, and the opportunity to eat super fresh percebes - as ugly as they are good). You can also spend a night.

I'm afraid with the info you give, about wanting to go home the next day, but not saying how, you are back at doing the work yourself, looking a Vueling, Ryanair and al. schedules.

Apologies for lack of reply. We walk from Lires to Muxia on the 5th April. We stay overnight that night and way to get back to Santaigo the day after we arrive - 6th April. It would be lovely, as you say, to stay and spend more time but I need to get back to Australia for Friday the 10th. No flights booked Spain to England yet. But I fly from Londoners to Perth leaving Wednesday 8th at 10pm. I know there are busses from M to SDC but am of the understanding they are on specific days only. So was wondering if anyone knew more about this or other options? When you day expensive taxi can you elaborate? Expensive is a term that has different meanings for different people in different contexts. Thanks

The taxi is 50€. In June 2014 I shared a taxi with three other pilgrims, 12.50€ each. It took only an hour to Santiago.

Grupo Ferrin provides bus service from Muxia to Santiago. At time of writing there are two buses per day. There are differences in departure times weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Monbus (Empresa Monforte) operates buses from Muxia to Cee four? times daily. Monbus (Castromil) operates buses from Cee to Santiago several buses daily. The Monbus site will not provide an answer for Muxia to Santiago. The bus station in Cee is central downtown.

There are flights from Santiago to London. At time of writing there are Easy Jet flights to Gatwick and Ryan Air flights to Stansted. There used to be Air Iberia flights to Heathrow. I guess the flight schedules change with the seasons ... It takes at least 3 hours to get from either Gatwick or Stansted to Heathrow by National Express bus.

My experience is taking the bus from Fisterra at 0930 and arriving at Santiago train station around 1230. I caught a train to Madrid later that afternoon arriving at Madrid around 2100. An all day evolution. The next day I went from Madrid to London Gatwick and by bus to London Heathrow ... another all day evolution.

Where are you flying from? Heathrow? If so maybe explore going to A Coruna (a lovely place) and flying Vueling to Heathrow from there.

If you are walking Santiago-Finisterre-Muxia, you could consider going first to Muxia and then on to Fisterre, because there are lots more bus options from Finisterre than Muxia. I wouldn't be at all surprised if you could get into Santiago much earlier in the day from Finisterre than from Muxia. I have walked in both directions, and really enjoy walking into Muxia from Santiago. The one downside is that you won't get that ocean view and descent into Cee if you go from Muxia to Fisterre, but the walk from Hospitales where the Finisterre or Muxia paths separate is very nice too. And the albergue in Dumbria is amazing.

But you can be assured of getting a bus into Santiago from Muxia, it'll just be a question of whether the timing works well for your flight. Buen camino, Laurie

Al's suggestion is well worth consideration. I took a bus from Muxia to A Coruna in 2013 and flew back to Haterow. Service provide by http://autocaresvazquez.net , search Cee - Coruna E.A. Two buses a day as I recall. Vuelling / Iberia / British Airways all fly A Coruna - Heathrow but there is a lot of code-sharing so may be only one flight a day depending on season.

I like the ocean view and walk into Finisterra but I have to admit to being one of those who really didn't like the descent into Cee. Admittedly it was in a very heavy 15m vis mist and the rocks were slippery and dangerous. Love Muxia.

And remembering of course that the 6th April is Easter Monday... From what I've read elsewhere on the forum it sounds like that is a peak time for Spanish pilgrims. Bus times may be different on public holidays?

EDIT: Sorry, Easter Monday doesn't seem to be a holiday in Galicia, although it is in some parts of Spain. Probably still busy though.

Thanks so much. We have sorted flights from Santiago to London, transfer to Heathrow then fly to Australia. That's going to be a MASSIVE day or so..... Just need to sort a bus from Muxia to Santiago. Thanks for your info Pene
