Getting from Biaritz Airport to Saint Jean Pied de Port late at night

Planning on setting off mid September, 2015. I've never done it before.
I have an option of a flight, convenient in other ways, but arriving from Gatwick at Biaritz after 10pm on the night of Tuesday 15th September.
Will other pilgrims, that I could share a taxi with, be arriving that late?
Is there any public transport to somewhere to stay at that time?

I'm trying to weigh it up, as if I end up spending loads on taxis I think I might as well get a train from Sussex, where I set off from, and arrive at St Jean at a more convenient time. Any thoughts? By the way I know the train will be a bit more expensive but when I start adding 30-40 euros on top of the cost of the 'cheap' flight, suddenly the difference is not so great! However if theres somewhere to stay or a way of cheaply getting to SJPP then I'd still rather do that. Cheers Christine

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Have you considered staying in Biarritz over night, having read other posts some people take that option, you can then get the bus from Biarritz to Bayonne and then the train to SJ the next day.
Just a thought but possibly worth considering.

Hi, there is a Eurolines bus that leaves London Victoria at 9am and arrives in Bayonne at 4am. £72 one way, direct. Jill

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

There wouldn't be much point in going to SJPdP at that hour as everything will be closed.

I would suggest finding accommodations close to Gare de Bayonne or perhaps close to Biarritz Airport.

Thank you, I was wondering about that but have now decided to get the train all the way and miss out the plane completely! Not only does that mean I get to Bayonne in time for the last train to St Jean Pied de Port, it also means I can bring my walking stick, knife and thermos cup! On Ryan air there's a £30 charge to put baggage in the hold you see. When I weighed up all the costs suddenly the train seemed the superior option, and my carbon footprint won't be quite so bad either! Cheers Christine
