We are trying to put together a biking/hiking trip from Paris to Saint Jean-Pied-de-Port. We will arrive in Paris on June 15th, and will start biking on the 16th.
We want to start somewhere slightly south of Paris (probably Melun) to avoid biking through the city as much as possible, then traveling via bicycle routes to Le Puy-en-Velay, and finally hiking from there to SJPdP.
We have looked at several bike routes and it looks like we should take the Véloroute des Pèlerins (EuroVelo 3) = La Scandibérique to Orleans, then the La Loire a velo to Le Puy. But we could save time/distance if there is a way to avoid Orleans and head directly south from the EuroVelo 3 to Briare and picking up the La Loire a velo there.
So, my questions are:

- Has anyone else done the route we're thinking of taking? If so, did you go to Orleans, or were you able to take the shortcut I mentioned? How many days did it take?
- If not the route I've outlined, does anyone have any other recommendations on biking from Paris to Le Puy?
