Good books and guides

Hello,
I´d like to know if there are any good books, travellogs, guides concerning El Norte. It´s easy to get books about Camino Frances. I´m going get the CSJ guides before my trip, but I think it would be interesting read about other pilgrims and travellers experiences.

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
Hello -T- , to my knowledge there are no English language books on the Camino del Norte. There are a number of lovely (3 that I am aware of) Spanish guide books and one in French. I think there is also a German guide too, but the only English ones that I have found are those availbale from the CSJ. There are a few diaries and blogs on the net as well if you have a hunt around - one is mentioned on the forum . Cheers, Janet

Can you give us the title and author of these? Although my Spanish is probably not up to it, I would like to give the French one a go. Perhaps someone has a copy I could borrow - I would refund postage, of course.

I collected a guide to the camino norte in 2007.
Guia Practica by the Federation Camino del Norte de Santiago. It is a spiral bound book and has 4 languages - Spanish, English, French and German - 2006.

I also have the 'Correos - Camino del Norte y Variant' booklet that was published in 2004.

Besides the norte website, you should be able to download a guide with maps and profiles on Mundicamino.com
( http://www.mundicamino.com/ingles/ Way of the North)

and xaocbeo.es

I have a spanish guide "El Camino de Santiago del Norte" by Paco Nadal, El Pais Aguilar, 2006. It includes both the coastal road and Primitivo. My spanish friend bought this for me after our Primitivo, we used his own on the road (he started from Irún) and managed well. It divides the route to day-etapas with altitudes and rough maps, restaurantes, bars, albergues etc. I like it. Haven´t used it in the coastal road, though.

http://www.elpaisaguilar.es is the website to buy it.

P.S. Timo, I think you´ve done a good decision to take the northern route. I´ve only driven by a car the north-coast and walked the Primitivo-section, but as you wrote somewhere else about the crowds and so... if you´re used to hike in Finland, you should not have problems in the northern route, which can be a bit harder than frances.

Hello Timo,

As I will walk the Camino del Norte next month, I was looking to for recent guides. I ordered two:

1) Andrée et Philippe Duhalde, François Lepere, Yvette Terrien: Le Camino del Norte, le chemin le long de la mer. Lepère Editions 2008, ISBN 978-2-91515-619-5. http://www.lepere-editions.com.
2) Raimund Joos & Michael Kasper: Nordspanien: Jakobsweg Küstenweg. OutdoorHandbuch aus der Reihe "Der Weg ist das Ziel", Band 71. 7th edtition 2008. Conrad Stein Verlag, ISBN 978-3-86686-071-1. http://www.conrad-stein-verlag.de
I think I will take the German one with me.

Online guides I found on
http://www.caminosantiago2010.es/camino ... astian.htm (maps on Google Earth) en also on
http://caminodesantiago.consumer.es/los ... del-norte/ (downloadable pdf-files).

Maybe we will meet on the road. Bon chemin!

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
Hi Lucas,

I hope you will post your experiences once in a while on this board. My wife and I will be walking the Camino del Norte this June. I would really like to hear about your views of the markings, trails, albergues, etc. Please stay in touch.

Buen Camino,
Mark

In additon to the this French guide the other one that I have is:- Le Chemin Côtier, Camino del Norte vers Saint-Jaques-de-Compostelle – de Bayonne au Cap Finiterre.
Jean Yves Grégoire, Franoise Pinguet. Rando Edition.

I also have this Spanish one:- El Camino de Santiago por la Costa o Camino Norte. Angel Ganzalez. This is an Everest edition. Great pictures - and lots of suggestions for cyclists I think (my Spanish is not that good!) Too heavy to carry though.

There is another very good Spanish one that I don't think has been mentioned here - I will try and find it and post it later. I saw it for the first time in 2007 In the wonderful camping shop in Sarria) but not in Santiago, and so was unable to purchase it. See below for other details

Cheers, Janet
