Time of past OR future Camino

Here is an interesting article about learning for "older" people. On the surface, it might be considered a bit off topic for a Camino forum. However, I think that the research, planning, logistics, physical preparation, language learning, are all clear benefits to us as we age, in addition to the pleasures and challenges of the actual pilgrimage in Spain. All of these motivate and stimulate us as we prepare for, or reflect on, our Caminos. It is a great hobby!

Hey @C clearly,
Thank you for sharing this article. I've spent nearly three months, over the last two years, in Spain and while I can speak well enough to reserve a bed and order a meal, I don't have any conversational skills whatsoever. Considering that I've been bitten by the Camino bug and look forward to future adventures in Spain, this article was the kick in the pants I needed to broaden my language skills. The learning begins today!

Hello everyone who has helped with tips re this forum.......and a special Hello to three Scots from Fife [one couple/one single man] who I met 2 years ago this September in the lovely Santander Hostel [right on the front]: at that point I had never walked any of the Camino and it was a delight listening to their stories. My apologies but I cannot remember any names but it was just to let you know that my husband and me are heading off to Porto on Tuesday [12/9], spending a few days with friends and then starting our walk from the Portuguese/Spanish border on Sunday. We decided rather than go back to Porto we would travel by bus from Santiago to Santander so my husband could experience a taste of that lovely hostel. Unfortunately we were too late and its fully booked but a day/night in Santander before we fly home to Edinburgh will still be worth the journey. If anyone of you remembers your time in Santander I would love to hear from you. Mary, Edinburgh

When planning for a bushwalk or Camino I stand by this : 50% of the fun is in the planning and the other 50% is in the talking about the trip afterwards..... draw your own conclusions (Attrib Robert Pallin - for those Sydney and SBW Bushwalkers )
