Agreed with Kayak.com.

Don't count on summer airfare to go down. It's prime season, and you won't get better prices unless travelling after Labor Day. For summer from US to Europe, there's no "two month" low point for prices. They just steadily climb from about eight months out. For fall/winter/spring, there historically tends to be a two-month low point for advanced purchases.

One option might be to look for less expensive locations in Europe than Madrid, and then hop regional carriers/trains to the area you're starting. It can save several hundred dollars, but it'll probably add an extra day to travel in and out (so a classic time v money scenario).

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Skyscanner.com
It will show you all prices for an entire month and you can select travel dates based on best prices.

Use Kayak, Google Flights, etc. to find flights, but then book directly with the airline. Don't be tempted by the likes of edreams, cheapoair, etc. They don't have "live" pricing. If you read their sites carefully they say that you are making a booking " request", then they quite often come back to tell you that the price has risen.
And if you have any problems it can be a nightmare to deal with a third party rather than directly with the airline.

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
Momondo worked for me.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Again, I recommend only booking directly with the airline. I might use Expedia, but I don't like adding a middleman into the mix, in case there are any issues. Use Kayak, Hipmunk, Momondo, Skyscanner, etc. to find flights, but don't click through to risky third party sites.

I hate to tell you this, but there is no magic low cost air fare fairy. Please resist the urge to book with a site promising pie in the sky prices. If your dates are flexible, you can sometimes get a good deal by flying on an "off" day.

And be aware that summer travel is usually more expensive, and you've left it a bit late.

BTW, what fares are you finding?

A good thing about Skyscanner.
Lets say you select to fly say into Paris and return from Madrid.
You run a scan for the same.
I find that Skyscanner will then run the scan for up to two weeks and the varying results will pop up on your monitor as an advert. Those ads that are usually so much of a nuiscance, are in this case a way of instituting ongoing monitoring of flights and pricing.
Regards
Gerard

Today, $1153 American Airlines. 1 stop in Dallas to Madrid. Wonder if can get senior citizen, etc discounts. Whatever works. Have spoken to others flying into Madrid for @$950 supposedly from United Airlines.

You are correct about the off day fares. $100 cheaper for that method $1053 roundtrip Madrid.

I used Kiwi.com to find the flights then booked directly with the airlines. Ended up finding fares around $200 each way. I'm flying Wow from Boston to Europe then Nowegian back. Using Ryanair to make connecting flights. Super cheap.

I'm technically from nowhere these days, but I've spent most of my life in North Carolina. I've lived in Europe, California and originally I'm from Ohio.
