Google Earth for iPhone updated

The Google Earth app for iPhone has been updated and now allows you to load KML files, of which there are a great many useful ones here:

You can download the files you want and then get them to a location in the cloud that your iPhone can access - I used Dropbox, but also have access to iCloud and Google Drive, which can be used.

Once you've selected the KMLs you want and put then in the cloud, launch Google Earth. Go to "My Places" in the menu, and at the bottom of the screen that appears, tap "Import KML file". From there go to the cloud storage location where you dropped the KML file.

If you haven't installed the Dropbox app and that's where you stored the KMLs, you will need to do that before gaining access to it on your phone.

There may be other ways to access the KMLs on your phone, but that's the way I know that works.

Google earth still requires one to be connected to the internet and terrain maps more bandwidth requirement than say Google Map.

I use Maps.me where I can download offline maps of Spain (whole country around 700 megs) or only certain regions on the camino (less space). They can be stored in an sd card (Android phones only) if your phone memory storage is low.

Maps.me also supports uploading of kml tracks for both Android and iOS.

I used this app since 2012 (without kml) and 2014 (when the kml feature were introduced). It helps me navigate along less trodden caminos especially when I can see how much off the route line I am on the offline map.

No internet data required, just the gps on the phone, or mobile network triangulation (much faster) if you have a local SIM card (which surprisingly doesn't add to data usage).
