Hola

Can anyone point me to a source of reliable GPS data for the Camino routes please? I'm not looking for maps, I'm looking for the data from which maps are made. Starting with the Camino Ingles perhaps?

John, I put up the Camino Ebro track in .gpx format here -->> https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/resources/camino-jacaobeo-del-ebro.413/history. I can also do a translation for you of the .kml (Google Earth) files from http://centrodedescargas.cnig.es/CentroDescargas/loadCaminoSantiago.do and put them up as a resource. I would be cautious to check the information provided from that source, as it often appears to me to be bicycle oriented, and does not often show alternatives.

I have done a QAD translation of the Centro de Descharges .kml tracks here. The source is http://centrodedescargas.cnig.es/CentroDescargas/loadCaminoSantiago.do.

Forum member stratophile has a website http://trekopedia.com which supplies GPS tracks of various walks. The page that handles the full Brieley version of the Camino Frances is at http://trekopedia.com/?page_id=3225

The data is in kml format but can be converted to gpx format with online tools.

Hi, C clearly. I rarely have the quickest or easiest tech solution, but what I like to do is use wikiloc.com. I go stage by stage and can choose hiking/biking, etc. Then I tend to use the most recent one, but I do check it out to make sure it comports with my understanding. There are lots and lots of options, and once I find a user I like, I tend to stick with him/her for the rest of the route.

I am by no means an expert, but one of the problems you may have with downloading the entire Vdlp and Sanabres on your GPS is that there is a limited number of "points" that the device will take. When I download from wikiloc, even one short stage of 25 km or so has more points than the device will incorporate, so that means I check the box that tells wikiloc to transform the tracks into one with 500 points, which my device will incorporate. That is perfectly accurate enough for a 25-35 km stage, but would not likely be good for the entire route of the Vdlp or Sanabres.

I once learned this the hard way. When Susanna and I were walking the Camino Olvidado from Bilbao, it turned out that the tracks that were loaded up had way more than the accepted 500 points -- which meant that we had tracks only for the first part of every stage. So it required re-loading with the "fewer points" version. Hope this makes sense. And I'm sure that the more savvy tech people on the forum can help.

@peregrina2000 It is especially helpful as it explains why I couldn't find the whole VdlP on one file! I was having to download stage-by-stage. Now I will go back and study it some more.

C. VdlP and Via Augusta separate in a zip file at http://mijncamino.nl/gps-bestanden?folder=Spanje. Gpx files are correct and used them this year.
