For those of you who are more tech savvy than I am (about 99.9% I would guess)...

What is the difference between gpx and kml files?

I received the email with the download link for Gerald Kelly's gps maps. I downloaded them onto my phone, but when I try to open them I get an error message saying that the app I need is not available??? So, in very simple non-tech language, what do I need to do to access these maps?

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Both are GPS tracks showing a route. KML is the format used by Google Earth. GPX is the format used by many dedicated GPS devices. Many software apps also support it.

GPS Babel (https://www.gpsbabel.org/) is a website that can convert your file between many different formats. If you find the site confusing, you can send the file to me by PM and I can convert it for you. Just tell me the format you need for whatever software you are using (or tell me what app you are using on your phone and I can probably figure out what format you need).

Have you downloaded the Maps.me app? It works with the KML files.

Actually I followed @trecile's suggestion and downloaded maps.me which is showing me the VDLP track. Thanks for your kind offer but I'm good for now.
