GR221 Mallorca...simular like a camino?

Walking a Camino = a way of living...
Time of past OR future Camino

Hi all pilgrims,

After walking 4 Camino's which really changed my way of living, I made a plan to walk in February 2021 the GR221 in Mallorca. My question is if this GR is simular like walking a camino? Can I experience the same magical and spiritual feeling I felt in my former camino's?

Anyone who walked this GR?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

Marcel

A guide to speaking Spanish on the Camino - enrich your pilgrim experience.
Hi Marcel, I have also walked 4 Caminos since 2008. I also did the GR 221 Pedra en Sec in 2015.
It's a beautiful and scenic walk, also quite demanding with lots of height gain and loss in many stages. The only time I felt the same kind of Camino vibe was when staying at the monastery at Lluc, however nonetheless it was a great experience and the locals in the villages where also extremely kind and helpful.
A lovely walk with great scenery and I'm sure you will enjoy it!

Thanks for sharing your feelings about the GR. Did you took a tent to sleep in nature? Or did you stay over in the refugi's in the small towns? I will do both knowing that sleeping in nature is 'illegal'.... And what about shops for food during the walk? I will walk the whole route from stage 1 till the end. I have 13 days to spend on Mallorca.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
We were a group of 6 friends invited first night at La Trappa disused monastery then mixture of rifugis and small bed and breakfast also Lluc monastery. 10 days walking with a rest day at Soller.

Bivuacced at La Trappa!

Probably a lovely walk if you enjoy hiking for its own sake, but hiking for its own sake isn't the Camino.

It's great in its own right obviously, and many people practice exactly that on the Ways of Saint James every day of every year, with which there's nothing "wrong" at all -- so really I'd say here that the beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

If your basic purpose on the Camino is the hiking, then the hiking for its own sake will be right up your alley.

But if it's something else you're looking for along the Way, well, it may or may not be there as the case may be.

The answer to your question is probably inside rather than out here.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Hello! I'm starting research on the VF and, having walked the Camino Francés, I wonder how laundry/hand washing facilities and situations compare on the Francigena. I know there are more private...
Good news for pilgrims on the VF: https://www.viefrancigene.org/en/historic-pilgrim-hostel-reopens-in-siena-tuscany/
