I've been meaning to post this for a while.
I did the VdlP last year: started walking from Seville, but had to stop straight away because of injuries I'd got while training. So eventually I went back to Seville, bought a bike and started riding, only to get a knee injury by the time I'd got to Merida. After a couple of days moping in a hotel room hardly able to walk I asked if they could recommend a physio to me. They did and he turned out to be the best physio I've ever come across!!
His name is Mario Pessini. His address is Calle de los Maestros 31 in Merida. He speaks English well and had recently been in Santiago, although he had yet to do a Camino.
In one session he diagnosed the issue - cause and effect, showed me a video on Youtube about it, treated the injury - heat treatment, electro-pulsing, trigger point release, massage, told me how to avoid it by making a slight adjustment to my pedals and showed by how to tape my leg to support it. The next day he also sent me photos of himself doing the stretches he wanted me to do!
When I asked how much it cost, I was very surprised when he said 30 Euros. I was expecting a lot more. He treated me for 1 hour 15 mins after 9pm, while his wife was waiting!
The next day I could walk around the sights in Merida and began riding again the day after that. The injury got better and better all the way to Santiago. Every few days I would get an email from Mario asking me how I was going.
Before I left Merida I took Mario a bottle of wine called "Miraculous" which was very apt and told him I would send him a postcard from Santiago (which I did), then he could enjoy the wine with his wife.
I wouldn't have made it without him. I recommend Mario to anyone in Merida who is injured.
