Riolobos was opened up as the official camino in 2016 (?) when an owner was blocking pilgrim passage through his ranch.
Then in the last year or two the Junta found an alternative way to go around that recalcitrant landowner without having to go through Riolobos.
the Riolobos folks who invested $$$ to provide for Vdlp are understandably upset, but there have been a few arrow wars.
Leaving from Grimaldo, you will find one clearly marked alternative left turn to go to Riolobos. As you leave the dehesa a few kms further on and come to a paved road, there is another option to go to Riolobos (to the left on the highway —this option is not shown on gronze’s map). To the right takes you up and alongside the highway going away from Riolobos and toward Galisteo (you are behind the guardrail though so it’s not dangerous). At the top of a hill, cross the highway and enter a cattle ranch. Well marked. I came across a very big herd coming up towards me. I just plastered myself against the side and waited for a LONG tone till they had all passed. Not fun, but of course the guy on the scooter who come up behind about a half hour later assured me that I was perfectly safe and just should have walked on ahead.
