Guide App

I am doing the Frances again this year and rather than carry a guide book I am looking for an app with similar info the Brierley/Yellow book etc. I seem to remember that one was launched (via Ivar?) a year or two ago maybe from this site. Does anyone have any info on this? as well as opinion as to which the best might be especially for up to date info re albergues/places to eat/transport etc

For Android devices only but if you do have one then this is what I have used for two of my walks and will be using again this year.

It's free but if you make a donation you will get daily weather reports for today plus the next three days in the area you are looking at on the app (eg if you're checking out Sarria it will give you the weather report for that day plus the next three - great when you're heading towards a destination).

I have the Brierley maps-only book and the Village to Village guide by Anna Dintamen that I bought as a Kindle book but access on my phone through the Amazon app. The combination has worked really well for the past two weeks.

I downloaded the Kindle version of Brierley's maps to my phone but I didn't use it - I found the paper version far more convenient and easier to use when on the trail.

The Wise Pilgrim app has good albergue info. Combined it with map-only physical Brierley book, and the two worked well for me.

The Wise Pilgrim apps are excellent for the Camino. Map, gps, accommodation and other info in a dingle package. Place the opportunity to comment on accommodation and read the comments of others.

You might also want to check out the TrekRight app. There is a very small fee, but I was very favorably impressed. It works perfectly on an iPhone.

Hi @richeyboy - since you are on an iPhone, try TrailSmart. If you don't need the offline maps, it is completely free and has no advertisements or other commercialization, and it's updated frequently. It currently covers the Primitivo, Portugués, and Finisterre as well as the Francés. Among other info, it has details and geo-location for over 750 albergues, about 450 of which are on the Francés. (I can't believe how many albergues there are now on the Francés compared to just a few years ago!) Disclosure: I'm part of the team behind TrailSmart.

I used the TrekRight app last summer and thought it was useful. Having said that, I just downloaded the Wise Pilgrim app, and it has a much more extensive section on accommodations (including hotels). My personal recommendation is that given their cost (both low), I suggest taking them both, as they have different information.
