It depends on where you are walking from and what you are looking for from the guide. There will almost certainly be a number of changes to the available accommodations. Some of the places listed in the guide will have closed and no longer be available, new places will have opened and not be listed. In general, the route information should mostly still be correct, except if you are walking out of Lisbon there has been a substantial change to that section of the route.

Someone will be writing shortly recommending one or more online apps. I'm here to say that you could compare your older guidebook with information given by Gronze.com (probably not worth the effort though).

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

On the Spanish part, there have been some, but not significant, at least not regarding places to stay. some alternative routes have popped up since then, and some improvements that you don't need a guidebook to discover.

Hello:
Thanks for your advise....I am use to a map and compass for hiking (UK) so I am feeling a bit of a loss with just a guide book right now.....I think I will use my 2018 Pilgrim guide and trust that the Camino will provide but for some reason I will take a compass as I will feel at a loss without one.. Thanks-Goldenboy

Perfect memento/gift in a presentation box. Engraving available, 25 character max.
Hola

You might already have a compass... many compass apps can be downloaded to smart phones so not any extra weight.
Also - I'v walked with guidbooks a few years old - alle fine with some help from online guides.

Buen Camino

If OP is unwilling or unready to use an app as a guidebook, I'm not sure they are any more ready to use one as a compass.

I used a book only two years old for the Francés and found a lot of specifics regarding food/lodging has changed. It was helpful for general route information and history/background on each location, but apps were significantly more handy for the day to day logistics regarding the trail and albergues.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

I think you will need a new guidebook. In Six years with a pandamic inbetween, too much has changed.

The Wise-Pilgrim guide books are very good for trail and lodging information.

You will not need a compass. The trail is a very well marked.

On the Portugues I used Maps.me. There are other such programs for your phone. There were instances where I missed a marker and wound up off the trail. The phone map showed me that I was off and how to navigate to get back on. In most cases, the path was a dirt road and the Camino branched off on a side path. In the cases where I backtracked, the marker was in the shade surrounded by shrubs. All of my issues of missing the trail took place between Lisbon and Porto. From Porto on it is very well marked and resembles the Frances though the crowds are a bit smaller. If you don't want to spend the cost of most guidebooks, Ellie Bieling on this website has some very detailed but economical guidebooks you can download to a phone or tablet.

A 2018 guidebooks is pre Covid and not all the accommodation survived, plus there are some new options. There have been a few route changes but all have plenty of yellow arrows.
If you are not comfortable with technology knowing what is actually available will be less certain with an old guide. Finding your way is easy enough, particularly on the coastal route.

you may be better off with google maps and data. there are fences, walls, roads, highways, etc that your compass will not be able to anticipate (you are not out 'in the open'). anyway, good luck and Buen Camion

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
