HEEELLLPP!!! Need translation of a sentence in galician!!

Hi folks,

Long story short: the place we stayed in santiago accidentally charged our bank card for the room but since the machine was playing up none of us relaised until we got back to the uk. I've been emailing them using babelfish to translate into spanish...unfortunately the answers are in Galician (i think!!) which means babelfish skips some words completely. We think we may have it sorted out (save for a small glitch on my part..oops) but I've just recieved this from the hotel and having translated it online (see below also) I have NO idea what they're saying!!! Could anyone help with this please?!!! So sorry to be asking but online Galician dictionaries seem to hard to find...

Hola,
Hola el lunes entetaremos arreglalo todo, lo sentimos pero hasta el lunes no se lo podemos sulucionar.

The translation I got was:

Hello, Hello entetaremos Monday arreglalo everything, we felt it but until Monday we cannot be sulucionar.

Absolutely no idea what that means....any clues anyone??

I assume that should be 'solucionar' =
Hello, we intend to sort everything out on Monday, we are sorry but we are not able to resolve this until Monday

Btw, it's Castilian not Galician. Easy way to tell: definite article ('the') is 'el' 'la' in C and 'o' 'a' in G

Ah right - thank you thank you thank you!!!! Very much appreciated Peter. I'm a tad confused though...isn't Castilian the "normal" spanish and would therefore be translated by the automatic thing? Mind you...modern technology...maybe the luddites had a point.... :)

Whatever...maybe the spanish lessons im startng this month (stable door..horse..bolted..comes to mind) will clear it up!

Thank you again Peter, especially for the speed of reply.

Gracias senor!

Hi Martin,

The reason Babelfish can't translate this is that some of the words are misspelt. (It's all in Castilian, as Peter Robins noted.)

'Hola el lunes entetaremos arreglalo todo, lo sentimos pero hasta el lunes no se lo podemos sulucionar.'

I'm assuming that "entetaremos" is "intentaremos" = "we will try"; "arreglalo" should be "arreglarlo" - "to put things in order"; "sulucionar" is "solucionar" = "to solve". You also got a lousy translation for "lo sentimos." It doesn't mean "we felt it"; it means, "we're sorry."

So let us know how it goes on Monday!

Ah! Right - I supose I cant take an automatic translator to task for not recognising misspelt words! Thank you so so much for taking the time to explain it, it's been driving me nuts! :D

= 'we feel it' meaning 'we have sympathy'

btw Martin, it is very unlikely someone like a hotelier would address you in Galician. The locals might well speak Galician amongst themselves, but know perfectly well that few Spaniards speak it, let alone anyone else.

Many thanks for this Peter, much appreciated. I'm quite keen to learn Spanish, or indeed any other language, so little tips like this make quite a difference. As for the Galician thing...I guess the lesson there is dont assume!

On a side note - they contacted me again today to say they had completed the refund (babelfish did a reasonable enough job for me to get the gist) and it should be with us next week.

Thank you all for your help with this, I was under the impression they had done it so finding out they weren't planning to do it until monday was a bit of a shock (for want of a better word). I look forward to my upcoming lessons :)

Adios amigos, gracias!
