Hello. Walking the Camino in October 2019

Hi all. Starting in October 2019, does anybody know if Refuge Orrison is open then?
Also is it advisable to book all accommodation for the trip?

should be open - although they may close a little early if they are getting little custom....

In any case you probably should try to book well before and they will tell you if they will not be open when you want to be walking - email them at refuge.orisson@wanadoo.fr

My sister and I have a booking for 24th September, so they are open till then at least. Buen Camino!

You should book early for Orisson. You never know the weather and even in October the Napolean route may be closed. You should definitely check the weather (I am sure they will tell you) in the Pilgrim Office when you get your passport. Even if you have a passport it is a good idea to go there to get up to date information on Albergues and weather and other questions you may have.

No, not at all, in my humble (and I be ever so humble) opinion.

Walking is not a precise science. Over a month, or longer, our legs, not to mention our mind, body and soul, will need a rest. We don't always know in advance just when that will be. On the way we may encounter something we wont to tarry over. And something our planning suggests we should tarry over quickly becomes a disappointment and we quickly move on.

When driving it is easy to spend one more hour to catch up last time and be, say, 50 km further along. When walking that is two or so days walking.

What some do is ring ahead in the morning, when there is some idea of what the day will bring.

Depending on when you begin walking in October, you might need to make reservations in private albergues, as some municipal and parochial albergues close mid- or late-October.

Ditto. Reserve your first 2 or 3 nights in advance. Then, if you feel the need to book, reserve the night before or morning of. You'll quickly get a feel for how crowded or not things are, and how far you want to walk. And at any rate, that time of year you should have no problems walking with no reservations, once you get going and have a feel for things. Enjoy!

Hi there I know this is an old post, just wondering if you managed to get a booking in Orisson? My sister and I have booked a nights stay on the 11th of October. Getting worried now that they may cancel after reading comments saying it was closed at this time last year....

Hi Tia,
I stayed at Orrison Oct 6th 2016 (good stop!). It's not necessary to book in advance unless you have special needs / constraints. I might add that some private Alberges between the bigger towns do close in mid-October, meaning it may not be n option to stop where you anticipated. I will be doing a short section myself in October '19, and have booked ahead this time (my constraint is that my wife can only manage short sections).
You will love the experience!
