At the moment it is necessary to equip 3 albergues, Azambuja [(way of the Tejo (Tagus), and Central to Santiago], Pedreiras and Cós [(Poente way (Nazaré - Fatima - Tomar)].
Each albergue needs: 4 Bunks, 1 Basic kitchen, 2 tables, 8 chairs, 1 clothing tank.
We would like to feel the pulse of the pilgrim community, and realize if there are pilgrims with sufficient generosity to help equip, these places (albergues) of pilgrim?

You might consider contacting the various national confraternity organizations. I know the American Pilgrims on the Camino has a grant program which has contributed to Camino-related non-profit organizations and albergues in the past, and I would be surprised if other confraternities don't have similar programs. See http://www.americanpilgrims.org/grant-program for information on the APOC grant program.

Moderators/Ivar: Would someone please confirm this a legitimate request?

Yes Ivar. Please delete this thread. We do not need this. We are poor in money but Rich in solidarity. And Ivar delete too my profile, please.

I have made a donation. Please do not leave - remember that there are many people on the forum and we speak different languages. I had to wait until I got home from work so that I could read the English translation of the website and facebook pages. I am now interested in learning more about the Portuguese Caminho and will be researching it thanks to your posting.

Please, what is a clothing tank?

Now, reading the original text it´s all clear. Um tanque de roupas is an old fashioned Portuguese washbasin made of concrete. I had one in my Alentejo home. To do your washing you only need water, soap and strong arms for rubbing - no electricity!

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Aurelio, I've sent you a PM. I only wish I had been on here yesterday when this came up, because I am one of many forum members who could have vouched for your bona fides and calmed whatever suspicions the post might have created.

I understand how this could have insulted or hurt the OP's feelings, since Aurelio is a valued forum member and many of us have benefitted from his help and kindness. But Biarritzdon didn't know that background, and probably had not been involved in any of amsimoes' many threads. I appreciate that we have to be wary of scams-- we have had a few here on the forum and have had to react.

But in any case, Aurelio, know that we value your participation and hope you will look past this misunderstanding. Bom caminho, Laurie

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
It is easy to be suspicious of the internet; scams abound. Still, on the Forum it is worthwhile to be kind while getting additional information. A Conversation may be the best way to ask for additional information. As the saying goes, "praise in public; reprimand in private." When the inquiry is public, it carries an implied rebuke. I hope Aurelio does not take any posts personally. I don't think they are intended to offend. That is just my opinion; I could be wrong.

I would love to donate. Can you give me an idea of how many euros it takes to purchase the items you need?

Thanks a lot Pilgrims.
I'm Rodrigo Cerqueira, President of Associação de Amigos dos Caminhos de Fatima, a Portuguese non profit Pilgrim organization (since 2006).

A few days ago I asked our pilgrim community on Facebook if they were willing to help us furnish the Albergues of Azambuja, Pedreiras and Cós. A Portuguese pilgrim ( Aurélio Simões) translated and posted it on this forum...
To our surprise the goodwill transformed into donations... After all the good feedback we decided to move forward with this project in a more determined way. Soon we will publish more information about it.

We are still working on the translation of our website. Below are some facts about our pilgrim work:

Aurelio, Because of your original post, I too have donated. I plan to walk the Portuguese Camino in 2018 and feel good knowing that I did something to help the Camino in the great country of Portugal. And, Its because you posted here!!! Thank you!! Ed

Dear Pilgrims
For total transparency with donations we are asking the pilgrims who make the donations for the Albergues if they allow us to publish the name or nickname and the amount of the donation on a public list in our website www.caminho.com.pt?
Soon we will have the dedicated webpage to this project..

Best regards.

Hi Rodrigo, in the original post Aurelio mentioned Azambuja. Is that albergue now fully equipped and no longer in need of equipment?
Many thanks, Jill

Hi Jill If everything goes according to what the Mayor of Azambuja told me the furniture of the old Albergue of Azambuja (now closed) will be use in a temporary Albergue. Until the new one is open by the Santa Casa da Misericordia. So it we don't need to ask for donations for this Albergue.
Kind regards
Rodrigo Cerqueira
