Camino de Frances
Hello, I am starting the Camino Frances at the end of May this year from St Jean Pied de Port but visiting someone the day before who lives in Hendaye. Can anyone that had started in Hendaye recommend a good starting point and how long it would take to walk/train etc. Many thanks

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
You might take a train from Hendaye to Bayonne; there are many throughout the day. Travel time is very short, less than 60 minutes. At Bayonne change to a TER line 62 train to SJPdP.

Usually there are 4 TER line 62 trains a day at 07:45, 11:10, 14:56 and 18:06. Journey time is roughly 1 hour. You can buy the ticket in the station either from a live agent or via a card machine. There are no reserved seats on the TER so prior booking is not necessary.

For more info for both trains see this web http://www.ter.sncf.com/aquitaine

Good luck, Bon voyage and Buen camino!

Thank you so much for the information, that is very kind of you! Have a lovely day

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
very good reply by mspath.

If the train is not running from Bayonne to SJPdP then catch the bus. Bus leaves from front (parking lot to your left coming out of train station) Bayonne Train station to SJPdP. Buy ticket from driver at bus.
The three times I was in Bayonne the train did not run. Had to catch bus. Few times per day. I always caught the early morning bus.

By the way, if need place to stay Hotel Cote Basque is across from train station. When standing in front of station it is at about the 11 o'clock position. Not bad. Works for a night stay. Of course there are other places in Bayonne to stay.

If have time walk around Bayonne. Nice city.

Thank you! Will need to check that, its midweek so hopefully with have both options, will make time for Bayonne, thanks!
