Herbón monastery

Time of past OR future Camino
2016
I would love to stay here but I am interested in a few details. What time is the special mass? How many KM is the following day to Santiago? I need to be there by 2pm to pick up something of mine. Also, I would love to make the noon mass at the Santiago cathedral but I am not sure if it is doable unless you leave very early from the monastery.

Any other details, thoughts, opinions regarding the monastery and the stages arriving there and leaving would be appreciated.

If I´m not mistaken Hebron is about the same distance from Santiago de Compostela as is Padron (25kms. aprox.)

Hope someone else on here can confirm this distance or assure you the right distance.

Buen Camino!

Hi, Seth,
Here is a bit more information I've found on the website of the association that runs the albergue.

The turn-off for the monastery is right after you pass the church of San Xulian de Pontecesures, before crossing the bridge over the river Ulla. Breakfast is at 7:30 and dinner at 9:00 pm. Mass and pilgrim blessing at 8:00 pm (though I am not sure the religious services continue with the priests gone).

Looking at google maps, it looks like Herbon is directly east of Padron and about as far from Santiago as Padron is. But what I don't know is how the camino is marked from Herbon.

Buen camino, Laurie

When I did the Portugues Camino I remember that you came to a fork in the road, left for Padron & right for Hebron. I also remember that the way was indicated but the yellow arrows were for Pardon and for Hebron if Im not mistaken were red.
Hope I have been of some help.

Buen Camino!

My recollection from June was that it Herbon is well signposted from the CaminoPortugese, and there was a very clear poster in the O Porrino albergue and I think one of the tourist offices.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
There will be a fork, one going to Padron with yellow arrows and the other going to Hebron with red arrows. They open at 4 pm. We considered staying there but decided to go on to Padron. Not to miss, an incredible view of the river as you are crossing the bridge.

Herbon is one of two albergues run by the AGACS (The Gallego Camino Association). Still donativo, still communal meals, but note the opening dates -- not open till June 1, closes end of October.

I know that in the past some pilgrims were disappointed to hack their way through an overgrown trail, only to find that the albergue was closed. I am going to bet that once it's open, the Voluntarios make sure that the trail from the Camino to the monastery is well marked and not overgrown.
