Can anyone let me know what event this was? Mainly all women dressed up in bright costumes but some men carrying a few long poles estimated as some 12-15 feet long.P1040678.JPG

I think it‘s their annual medieval jousting weekend. I walked through and stayed overnight there in May ‘19, the night before it was all about to kick off.

It certainly looked as though it was going to be fun, women of all ages chatting away in their finery but it seemed as though it would be quite a while before things got going. There were amplifiers along the bridge with music being played. As I have mentioned in a previous post of mine, next time I'll take more time to stop and enjoy the day more and not rush to the next accommodation, although "rushing " is perhaps not the right word at age 73!

These are traditional outfits from Castilla y León, so I don’t think it’s the jousting fiesta, where people wear medieval garb.

A little googling brought up some news articles describing a relatively new folklore festival in Hospital de Orbigo. Were you there in the last few years?

The pictures show men carrying those long poles with the flags unfurled, so I’m guessing that’s what it was.

Such a feast of color for the eyes! Buen camino, Laurie

Yes, that was it as it was on Sunday 19 May 2019. I did Google when I got home but didn't get any results, perhaps it just couldn't find it in English v Spanish. Regrettably, I can't recognize the pilgrims in the photo on the second link although I must have seen them on the previous days or at Astorga that evening. Thanks for the link.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

I caught the festival just as it started. My partner and I decided to stay an extra night to watch and participate in the festivities. The food they prepared was pretty bland. No spices to add. You have to ask just for salt and pepper. But the Sangria was good! I was there in early June, 2018. I am just sorry I did not spend one more day there at the festival!IMG_20180602_192315_887.jpgIMG_20180602_100644_664.jpgIMG_20180602_100443_746.jpg
