I cannot tell you why but we went though a week or so with almost no Pilgrims checking in at all and it was mid summer. although we did have a cold spell.
This gave my hospitalero partner the opportunity to mountain bike into Castrojeriz to watch the world cup football . Somehow he made it back in the dark. I had to keep the ruin's gate just slightly ajar. At 8pm I hear a creek of the gate and a solitary Pilgrim comes in. Well , that what I was there for. A lovely young Lady from the eastern block walks in . She had the whole dorm and facilities available just for herself. She was vegetarian so I had to make a pasta from scratch but as I say , that was my service. We had a couple of small copos of vino and I lit our comfort lights for her - we had no electricity. Job done , I felt so good.
For the rest of the week it was World Cup and the the owner , Ovidio Campo and his wife made some alterations and bought some new furniture and they were going to take over. They had three lovely kids and they were safe there, on their bikes playing.
OVIDIO CAMPO by the way brought out a wonderful children's book a bout the camino they did together. Then Ovidio treated us to the last night in his hotel , all paid including food and wine. Some of these photos are repeats but I am sure you will enjoy.

San Anton has always been one of my favorite albergues. I did a short stint there as hospitalera and loved it! Such a special place!
