Hospitalero(a) - How Does One Become One so as to Volunteer?

I asked the question on another thread here but decided that perhaps others might wish an answer to the question as well. I am surprised the answer is not already here somewhere but I have searched but to no avail.

So, just how might I become a hospitalero and be able to volunteer for doing so? I am now retired and can easily do it.

Thanks.

American Pilgrims on the Camino offers training, as does the Canadian Company of Pilgrims. You should check out their websites and see when the next trainings are being offered. I went through the CCOP training because it was closer and cheaper than APOC. For you, APOC training might be a better option.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Hi there,

To be able to read and participate in the Hospitalero section of the forum, you need to apply to get access here: ucp.php?i=groups&mode=membership

..it is mean to be an area where people that are interested in becoming hospitaleros can share and learn about this experience. (Lia, I just approved you so you should have access now).

Greetings from Santiago,

Thank you very much for approving me. I have a lot of time on my hands, so thought this might be a good idea for me.

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
I volunteered for 2 weeks at L'Esprit du Chemin in SJPP. There is a place on the website where you can contact them about volunteering. Before I started I imagined myself working in the morning and taking short hikes up the Pryenees during the day to train before I started the Camino. It didn't work out that way. It was an all day job from very early morning until 10 at night when it was lights out. I don't know if it is this way at other albergues. I did enjoy the experience though.
