Was hoping for one night at this hotel in April but according to their website, they appear to be fully booked all year. Don't know if it's just that they're closed for winter and haven't updated the website yet. I hope they haven't been block booked by tour companies. Does anyone know anything about this?
Thanks
Deb

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Have you tried phoning or emailing? The owner speaks very good English.

This is a great place to stay - hope it works out for you!

Hi Deb
I found this last year when trying to book, it's something about the booking system they use. I checked booking.com where they are listed and that showed unavailable too. I thought it didn't sound right so I emailed them to book and got a quick response. I didn't mention my being unable to book online and they didn't seem to think it was odd that I'd emailed! The owners are really nice and it's worth persevering. Good luck!

Join our full-service guided tour and let us convert you into a Pampered Pilgrim!
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Just because booking.com doesn't show availability, there may be rooms available at the hotel itself. At least that is what the owner of a pension in Llanca told me when I couldn't find any room on booking but there were plenty available. He told me that booking.com only has authority to book a certain number of the hotel's rooms, not all of them. So now I always try the place directly even if booking shows no rooms available. Buen camino, Laurie

Laurie is right on! It is always worth checking prices directly with an accommodation listed by any booking service! Such accommodation pays a fee to that service and thus their stated price on that service link reflects that fee. Furthermore all rooms are not always listed with any service. Thus for the lowest price find the accommodation website or telephone and ask directly.
Caveat emptor!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Thanks again for the helpful advice. Found I actually had left a message on their website 'Contact Us'. The thought of ringing from here in Oz is rather daunting. They're probably just taking a well-earned break. I'll give it a bit more time.

However I also know that a travel company in Australia books this Hotel for group bookings. My husband (who has Dementia) was with a group walking and cycling. They all stayed there in September and they found that other individuals and couples who booked with the same travel company also stayed at most of the same Hotels along the Camino. I got the impression that these Hotels are pretty much booked out in this way because I was shadowing them independently, staying in Albergues, until he needed me to keep closer due to his condition. From Leon onwards, I tried to pre book through to Santiago and struggled to get accommodation in the same Hotels because of large group bookings. This company sends staff over there to scout Hotels, make contacts and arrangements for different 'styles' of travel to cater to eg 'women only groups' etc etc

Glenys, this is what I feared. Booking.com actually says "We're sorry but this property isn't taking reservations on our site right now".

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc

I would still definitely email or phone them (they speak good English). We stayed there last April and there were no groups, just two other couples and one solo. I guarantee they are not fully booked for the whole year already, although some periods will be busier than others. As mentioned above, Booking.com will say a place has no room available if the hotel has not yet released places to booking.com. I found this with a number of hotels when trying to book around this time last year, both with booking.com and through the systems used on hotels own sites, and came to the conclusion that some places just don't get set up properly for the year until after New Year. I had success in most places by emailing direct, and knowing that they speak fluent English at Akerreta I would also consider phoning. It's quite likely they will have taken a week or two off over the holidays though, so do keep trying.

WOW I have just done a search of the internet for this hotel. It is now on my list of places to stay if my 2017 Camino plan comes off. (thanks for all the info/tips on bookings). Cheers

It also gets highly recommended on this forum. That's where I first saw it.

Nice, fiendly place with a few rooms and good dinner. Heaven compared to the albergue in Laresoaña.

Brilliant place to stay and the owner Joseph (actually Jose Maria) is a lovely guy who is so welcoming and helpful for your onwards journey recommending other places to stay and the best bars in Pamplona away from the crowds.
They will be closed for winter so just keep checking for when Joseph opens the booking system. And yes, he normally has one or two rooms held back from booking.com.
Buen camino

I stayed at Hotel Akretta on my 2014 Camino – it was awesome – I picked up a Posadas del Camino loyalty card from the reception desk at Hotel Roncesvalles and was given a little information leaflet with the card - basically there are hotels / guest houses which have signed up to this association and when making your reservation or just walking in to any of these hotels you simply show your card and qualify for a standard 10% - 15% discount - so my stay at Hotel Akretta was 15% less, I must admit that I stayed in quite a few of their listed spots - regardless of where you start each of the hotels has these cards in their reception area, you just need to pop in and ask for one http://www.posadasdelcamino.com/asociacion/ list of accom http://posadasdelcamino.com/en/
